Whitehall Gardens,
London, 3rd. January, 1908.
With reference to the letter of the 19th.
October General Letter No. 43, from the Chief Resident Engineer, Kowloon-Canton Railway (British Section) to Sir J. Wolfe Barry
and Partners, I have the honour to state that we observe that
in paragraph 7 it is stated that Blasting Gelatine is being
bought at the tunnel at 70 cents - 1/7 d. per pound. We find
that, if this explosive were ordered from us in sufficient
quantities, we could supply it, delivered c.i.f. Hongkong, at about 1/3 d. per pound; and it might therefore be worth while
for the Colonial Government to consider the question of order-
-ing supplies through us if the quantities required are large.
I have etc., H. Martai
(Sd.)
for Crown Agents.
Honourable
The Colonial Secretary,
Hongkong.
